I Belong to a Tribe of One Breasted Women

I belong to a tribe of one-breasted women. My mother, grandmother, aunts, cousins, and sisters all have our right breasts mutilated.

Everyone in our tribe is female. Everyone significant in my daily affairs is female. I know of no males--only those we've taken as our war prisoners.

Traditionally, us Amazons have been a strictly-female group. Today, that considers us the first extremist feminist group to exist. However, once upon a time one of our tribe members did commit the unthinkable--she married a man. This is the story of Theseus and Antiope, and since Antiope did not want to come back to us, she was killed for her actions.

Incidents like these get me thinking, if we are trying to uphold our women-dominating beliefs, why did we kill one of our own though she did something wrong? I completely understand all of the other acts that we do: killing, murdering, imprisoning, and taking advantage of men. It is what we do during or after fighting. But it still seems a little hypocritical to me,  all of us are in a pact together; we've even physically hurt ourselves for the purpose of better being able to execute our duties. So this bond we've created, why can it be broken so fast?

It is so important for us to maintain a fierce and powerful image. We've redefined what it means to be feminine--our demeanor fierce as Hannibal's elephants; our mark left behind is one of a woman's. I guess we could be considered pink elephants if you will. However, the rhetoric we have, though barbaric, cannot be hypocritical. Men are supposed to suffer--not one of our own. If she was lost, we should have killed the one who led her astray. We should "make promises [to} never fear the witches inside" of us.

We have our Jesus figures: Aries, Artemis, and Cybele. As powerful women of the Amazon, we should use these as guidance and never let our power surrender to emotion.
