When I type "Uganda" on the images.google.com search bar and click enter, these are some of the first pictures that load. In the media, much of what we as developed, western nations are exposed to is negative publicity of other nations. We only see the poverty, underdevelopment, and violence in other nations. This causes us to assume that all third world countries are solely composed of these aspects. Because of the images we see, we are being educated about the conditions in other countries-but only the negative ones. It is important to bring light to the issues of poverty, underdevelopment and violence in other countries, but when it just so happens that those are the only images we are exposed to, we do not truly see a full image.
These are some of the images we are not exposed to: the images of developed cities and lush wildlife, and the images of children smiling and learning. Since we are only limited to the knowledge we can infer from photos, images limit our understanding.
